Beriman took the three-year-old bay gelding straight to the front from barrier eight, gave him a nice run and after rounding the home turn kicked clear down the straight to win by three lengths from the Symon Wilde-trained Maxey Campo ($14).
Iron Machine was backed from $31 to $15 in the betting ring and paid $23.90 on the TAB.
The win was a surprise for Beriman.
She said she worked Iron Machine on a wet Warrnambool track on Sunday and his effort was below par.
"I didn't give him much of a chance. It just goes to show that I don't know what I'm talking about ," she said.
"I'm really happy with him. I've got a completely different opinion now. He's got a future. He's a long way off being a mature horse."
The win was extra special for Beriman as Iron machine is trained by her parents Dennis and Robyn.
Dennis said he always had an opinion of Iron Machine and had set him for the race.
"He's been a bit wayward. We've been working him for a while. He missed the start in one of his four starts and then wouldn't come away from the rail when he ran third at Ballarat last start," he said.
"We turned him out and brought him back for this race. It's great to win here, extra special, especially with Nikita on him.
“She rated him really well and she does a lot of the work with the horses for us," he said.
