His Warrnambool stable has a light yarding on the opening day on Tuesday.
Weir's Warrnambool foreman Jarrod McLean will be busy this week wearing two hats as he will also have runners from his own stable including Lord Of The Song in the Grand Annual.
McLean gives us an insight into the main hopes from the stables for the first day of the carnival.
Race 6: NOW AND ZEN: I've got to rate him as the best of Weir's runners on the first day. He's making his steeplechase debut in the Brierly. Now And Zen’s hurdle form has been outstanding. We always thought he would be a better ‘chaser. He schooled well over the fences at Warrnambool on Wednesday and had another look around on Sunday.
Race 7: MISS BENEDATTA: She's trained on well from her first up run. She can handle soft going which will be an advantage. She should be hard to beat.
Race 9: GALLIC CHIEFTAIN: He's a seriously good horse. He's worked well at home. I think he's good enough to win this race.
Race 10: ROYAL ACE: He should be improved by his first up run. He trialled well at Burrumbeet last Thursday. I think with the good barrier he should be well place in the run.
McLean stable: The best runner from my stable is in race eight, Del Piero. He had two runs for me last time in work. He goes well fresh. The biggest worry is Del Piero gets back if they are running on he will be competitive.
