Three firearms and power tools were stolen when a dairy farm at Scotts Creek was broken into on Saturday morning.
A chainsaw worth more than $2000 was stolen from Roe Motorcycle and Mower in Warrnambool after brazen thieves cut a hole in the side of the building to gain access.
Detective Senior Constable Richard Hughes, of Warrnambool’s Crime Investigation Unit, said the remote dairy farm located on the Port Campbell-Cobden Road was targeted about 2.30am.
“It’s really concerning that there’s now three firearms floating around in the wrong hands,” Detective Senior Constable Hughes said.
The stolen firearms include a Howa .243-calibre rifle and scope, a .22-calibre Remington rifle and scope and a .22 Winchester black rifle.
Also stolen from the farm was a Stihl chainsaw, Mikita-brand battery charger, angle grinder, hammer drill, impact drill, rattle gun and a Magnum-brand welder.
Detective Senior Constable Hughes said Roe Motorcycle and Mower on Raglan Parade was broken into between 6pm Friday night and 9am Saturday.
He said the burglars cut a one-metre hole in a wire fence and then a similar size hole was cut into the metal wall on the side of the building. The burglars then used silver tape to join together two pieces of metal they had taken from the recycle bin to reach in and grab a Husqvarna 3120 chainsaw worth about $2800.
