An estimated 300 people attended the triple funeral of family members killed in a car accident near Nirranda. The three were killed in a two-car head-on collision.

100 YEARS AGO
Thieves stole about 120 kilograms of tea from a shop in Noorat. Men’s clothing, stockings and tobacco were also taken in the robbery.
Roads in the Warrnambool district were closed to traffic carting timber or firewood until the end of October. harsh penalties were imposed to people failing to obey the order.
Wild dogs hunting in packs were becoming a nuisance in the Western District. It was claimed that a shortage of rural labor and the scarcity of ammunition had resulted in the rising number of dogs.
150 YEARS AGO
Heavy rain in Koroit caused many streets and some shops to flood. Potato digging in the surrounding area had stopped and it was feared many potatoes were damaged by the water.
Business houses in Warrnambool closed for a day so shop assistants could attend the Port Fairy races. A special train ran from Warrnambool to Port Fairy on the day.
Police suspected a fire in a shop in Kepler Street was deliberately lit. The fire started between the business premises and the workshop in a pile of straw and timber.
