The Roos skipped ahead as heavy rain and winds hit Meville Oval in the fourth quarter of their open grade netball match on Tuesday.
Scores were tied at half-time and the Roos held a slender two-goal lead at the final change.
But the Kangaroos found a way to increase their buffer despite the tough conditions, running out 38-32 winners.
“It was very wet. We had a few fumbles and dropped balls but I felt the girls got themselves out of it quite well,” Kangaroos coach Kelsey Lewis said.
“In the end the way the girls were able to stay positive towards each other (helped us get over the line).
“They continued to work together and it paid off.”
Eve Duckmanton worked well with Lewis in the goal ring for three terms before the taller Aleisha McDonald was brought on in the last.
“It just gives us a big focal point to work with in the goal ring,” Lewis said of the change.
The second-year mentor said the Roos were a work in progress but happy to be undefeated after two rounds.
They host Cobden, which has split its games, at home on Saturday.
“We’ll take the win, even though it wasn’t the greatest of games,” she said.
“(There’s) lots to take away from it and lots to work on but being 2-0 gives the girls the confidence that I definitely think they need.”
