The Shamick Racing team member toppled fellow up-and-comer Cadel Ambrose in the event’s cadet nine class on the weekend.
Ponting is now two-from-two at the Victorian Country Series after a round one triumph at Puckapunyal.
The event welcomed more than 200 entries on Saturday and Sunday and was the second round of a six-part series spread across the western district.
South West Kart Club president Russell White said a number of high-quality karters descended on Cobden to take part.
He said south-west hopefuls remained competitive, despite facing tough fields of interstate racers.
“It went absolutely as smooth as we could have liked,” White said.
“There was some absolutely brilliant racing and although the weather had me a bit worried, we worked it out to fit it all in.
“We had a lot of South Australians come across to race at our track.
“I was speaking to the vice president of the South Australia’s karting body and he said the competition just isn’t as strong over there.”
