The dual reigning world champion clocked the third fastest qualifying time (3:30.938) but the strain of four tough races in the space of a few days took its toll.
Wiasak couldn't better her qualifying efforts and narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth (3:31.173) behind bronze medallist Kelly Catlin (3:30.365) of the United States.
Wiasak predicted Chloe Dygert was going to be tough to beat in the individual event and she was proven right when the USA star flew past the field to register a time of 3:24.641.
Sydney's Ashlee Ankudinoff was the best of the Australians in the field and was rewarded with a silver medal (3:31.784), but a seven-second gap shows just how dominant Dygert was.
Dygert almost single-handedly denied the Australians gold in the team pursuit after she overcame a near half-second deficit on the final lap to clinch first place.
