Lord Of The Song rounded off his preparation for the Great Eastern with a gallant second placing with Brad in the saddle in Saturday’s Von Doussa Steeplechase at the famous course.
Fellow Warrnambool trainer Simon Ryan saddles up his imported jumper Dormello Mo in the time honoured Great Eastern.
The McLean brothers will create history if Lord Of The Song can win the $160,000 race run over 4950 metres by becoming the first two siblings as jockey and trainer to be victorious in the race which was first run in 1876.
Jarrod, who is also the Warrnambool foreman for the powerful Darren Weir stable, said Lord Of The Song had pulled up a treat following his second place in the Von Doussa.
“I can't fault Lord Of The Song,” he said. “He's had a perfect campaign.
“I've got to give a lot of credit to Brad.
“He's put in a power of work on Lord Of The Song back home since the horse came into my stable after last year's May carnival.
“I'm confident with a bit of luck in the run we can be in the finish.”
Brad, who has battled injuries and weight issues during his career won the race on Pentacolo in 2009 and followed up that achievement in 2014 winning on Lord Of The Song.
The 11-year-old gelding is vying to win the race for the third time in four years.
He was trained by Patrick Payne for his first two victories.
The Thomas Foods International Great Eastern will be run at 3.09pm.
