The bluestone, from Port Fairy’s Bamstone, has drawn plenty of attention from shoppers.
People are stopping in the street to watch the works, and council’s economic development and investment manager Shaun Miller said it gave an insight into what the street would like like when the renewal was complete.
“It’s providing a great visual idea of what it is going to look like,” Mr Miller said.
“We hope it will be a very encouraging place to shop and be entertained.”
Lava Street eastbound traffic can now access the Liebig Street roundabout over the Easter long weekend.
Mr Miller said the Lava Street intersection would be closed to eastbound traffic from Tuesday, April 18 to allow the remaining demolition and upgrade of the water main.
A colouring competition has also proven popular, Mr Miller said.
“The Immerse Yourself in Easter promotion has been very positive with more than 100 people of all ages colouring in Easter posters,” he said.
“They are displayed in the CBD office at 142 Liebig, and entrants have the chance to win a $250 dollar hamper. It is still running until Easter Saturday.”
