The 26-year-old, who will play his 150th game for Dennington’s senior side this Saturday, lauded the efforts of the team’s forwards in last Saturday’s comeback win over East Warrnambool.
“We’re going to have a good forward line (this season) – we’re pretty strong through there,” Greene said.
“It’s going to take a while because we’ve got a few new blokes, but once we’ve got it working it might give a few teams headaches.”
Former South Warrnambool and South Rovers forward Scott Nicolson kicked four goals on debut for the Dogs, while Chris Keilar was a big contributor in Dennington’s seven-goal final quarter after moving up from the wing.
Herb Barlow is also a forward option, but was particularly impressive in the ruck during the second half of the season-opener, while Justin Wallace slotted three goals. Darcy Lewis will also slot forward on his return.
The Dogs’ attack will be one of their key pillars as they look to establish themselves as a threat again.
“This year finals first (is the goal) and hopefully the double chance,” Greene said.
Greene has seen first-hand how difficult it is to win the WDFNL premiership over his eight years with the Dogs.
In that time, he has played in three losing preliminary finals and was in two losing grand finals, before the Dogs secured a drought-breaking flag in 2015.
The battle-weary and wounded Dennington was sent packing from last year’s finals in the penultimate week, but Greene said the loss had not been touched on as the Dogs prepare for a fresh assault on the flag.
They will get a good gauge of where they’re at this Saturday when they take on flag fancy Merrivale.
Dennington teammate Sean Fogarty played his 100th game in the season opener against the Bombers.
