The highly sought-after Warrnambool product has re-signed for a further two years at the club he has made a name for himself at over the past two season.
“It is a nice process to go through with free agency, but you still have to weigh up your options and it does take a toll on what you’re doing,” Sobey told NBL Media.
“I’m pretty glad it’s over. It was going to take a lot for me to move places and want to experience playing somewhere else.
“It was a pretty easy decision for me on where I wanted to be and where I wanted to continue playing, and keep improving from. There was definitely other offers that make you think, But I knew where I wanted to be and where we wanted to be in terms of my and my fiancée.”
Sobey looked an unstoppable force at times during the 2016-17 NBL season, playing a big role in the Sixers’ rise to the minor premiers, before they were toppled by the Illawarra Hawks in the best-of-free semi-finals series.
The Warrnambool Seahawks premiership player crossed to the Sixers ahead of the 2015-16 season after spending a year with Cairns as a development player.
He returned home last Big V season and was a key factor in Seahawks’ massive rise and breakthrough championship win.
