Weir's Warrnambool satellite foreman Jarrod McLean said Big Duke had thrived since his last-start victory on protest in the $150,000 Manion Cup at Rosehill.
“He worked solidly at Terang on Tuesday morning going over 800 metres on two occasions to prepare him for the 2600 metres of the Chairman’s cup,” he said.
Big Duke has won four of his past five starts including the Launceston Cup.
Weir’s Warrnambool stable also has Voodoo Lad running in the $2.5 million T. J. Smith Stakes.
Palentino will line up in the $3 million Doncaster Mile at Randwick. Both horses worked at Terang on Tuesday.
“We worked them the reverse way to prepare them for their respective races on Saturday,” McLean said.
Lightly-raced Ruthven, an $18 fixed odds chance, runs for Ciaron Maher in the $2 million Australian Derby over 2400 metres.
