Work on Liebig Street started between Lava Street and Raglan Parade this week, in addition to works in the middle block between Lava and Koroit Street.
Warrnambool City Coucnil’s renewal project manager Ben Storey said the upgrades were progressing well, with the first concrete of the new footpath poured last week.
He said it was a significant project milestone.
“It’s a strong sign we are starting to put then street back together,” he said.
The slab was poured between Kevin Paisley Optometry and Baby Bird Boutique.
The next concrete pour is scheduled for Wednesday night, around the Bank of Melbourne, on the corner of Liebig and Lava streets.
The $15 million city centre renewal involves substantial upgrades to the main city centre streets to ensure they meet community expectations.
The west side of the Lava and Liebig streets roundabout will be closed to traffic until April 3.
Southbound vehicle travel along Liebig Street will still be possible and u-turn options have been provided in Lava and Liebig streets to the north and west of the roundabout.
It is on these foundations that the basalt and granite pavers will be placed over coming weeks.
The first light pole foundation was installed and demolition of the apron of the Liebig and Lava streets roundabout was undertaken.
Water meters have been adjusted and a range of Telstra’s underground infrastructure has been upgraded.
Free 90-minute parking is available in Parkers Car Park. Motorists must print and display a free ticket.
Shoppers also have the opportunity to win $1 million by purchasing items worth more than $30 in participating city centre shops. People need to keep their receipt and enter at www.cbd.warrnambool.vic.gov.au.
