He won his most recent start at the Warrnambool venue in what has been a strong series to date, and will look to do the same in Saturday night’s finale to clinch a series win.
Weel leads a host of south-west drivers in the series’ top 10, with Yambuk’s Glenn Watts third on 1341 points and Cobden’s Rhys Baxter (1254 points) and Carly Walsh (995 points) sitting fifth and ninth respectively.
He has also had wins at his home track Simpson and Avalon in this season’s series.
Weel previously won a rain-affected Victorian Wingless Sprints super series, but is seeking reward for a strong six rounds to date this time around.
“We’ve been pretty solid this year so far,” he said. “We’ve had three wins.
“Obviously we’re hoping to hold into the lead … (and) just keep up the momentum. You need a bit of luck here in the series.”
There will be strong competition for the feature win on Saturday, with New South Wales champion Jason Bates making his way south, along with a few other New South Welshmen.
Dayn Bentvelzen will also be hot on Weel’s heels. He trails the series leader by 154 points.
“You could throw a blanket over (the conteders for the feature win),” Weel said.
“It’s a really competitive series. The top 10 is littered with south-west drivers, which is really good to see.”
Weel credited being on top of his maintenance for his consistency over the series.
He will look to back-up his efforts on Saturday night with a tilt at the Victorian wingless sprints title at Western Speedway on April 1.
Premier Speedway will also host the Sprintcar Racing Association series grand final this Saturday.
Allansford driver Tim Van Ginneken is still in contention to take out the series after slipping to second in the rankings in recent weeks, while Warrnambool’s Corey McCullagh is third.
Van Ginneken trails leader Brett Milburn by 72 points, and will be looking for a more favourable finish than his last start at Warrnambool.
Gates will open at Premier Speedway from 4pm, with on-track action from 5pm.
