Detective Senior Constable Mick Palmer, of the Colac police crime investigation unit, said the shooting happened about 10.30pm last Friday night.
"A shot was fired through a window, the window smashed and pellets lodged in the wall of a lounge room wall. No one was home at the time."
Detective Senior Constable Palmer said it was a targeted attack.
"The victim is reluctant to assist police with our inquiries. It's a very unusual crime for Colac," he said.
"Victoria Police ballistics officers attended and examined the home. Police are looking for owner/driver of a grey Ford sedan which was seen in the area and may be able to assist us with our inquiries."
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Colac police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
