A community information session hosted by Telstra earlier this month has failed to appease a group of residents objecting to the new tower.
The group is opposing a Telstra planning application for a 55-metre development, 190 metres north-west of an existing 60-metre high tower.
The meeting was open to members of the public to talk one-on-one with Telstra staff but the opposing group had wanted a town hall-style meeting.
Spokesman for the group Peter Swainger said members of the group were able to manufacture the type of meeting they wanted.
“We all stood on one side of the room and asked our questions so we did get close to the format we wanted,” Mr Swainger said.
“The main issue is we have put forward other options for Telstra to locate the tower but they just won’t look at them.
“Tower Hill is a national park and we want to maintain the integrity of the park.
“Already when you drive west out of Warrnambool the tower at Tower Hill is the first thing you see so we don’t want another one.
“This isn’t a black spot for phone coverage, we believe it is just a business decision by Telstra.”
A planning application for the Telstra tower was on the agenda of Moyne Shire Council’s January meeting. Councillors deferred a decision, pending more information.
It is expected councillors will again vote on the application next Tuesday at their March meeting.
