The Bandari Project will host a movie fund-raiser on Friday, March 31 in Port Fairy, screening A United Kingdom.
Bandari Project co-founder Catherine Ryan said money raised would help support marginalised women in Mto wa Mbu.
Ms Ryan and partner Seif Sakate, who is originally from the region, are building a school in stages, with the help of south-west volunteers.
They also employ and train women onsite, equipping them with skills to earn a living and help them build a sustainable future.
Three women are currently employed onsite at the school’s chicken farm where they sell eggs and there are plans to grow the program.
“We’re hoping to get a fish farm up for the women who will sell the fish,” Ms Ryan said.
“We’re also looking into aquaponics and using the water to grow vegetables as another source of income and allow us to employ more women to be part of that program.”
The movie, based on a true story, is set in the 1940s. It tells the tale of Prince Seretse Khama of Botswana who shocks the world when he marries a white woman from London.
Tickets are available at the door of the Reardon Theatre for $15 which includes tea/ coffee and nibbles. The movie begins at 7.30pm.
