Mr Stonestreet, now Griffith City Council General Manager, was flown out on Saturday night requiring specialist treatment after suffering multiple stab wounds allegedly at the hands of his son on Wednesday morning.
Griffith City Council mayor John Dal Broi said he and Mr Stonestreet’s family are thankful for the care he received at the base hospital.
“He was looked after and cared for well at the Griffith Base Hospital. The staff have done an excellent job,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“He was in need of more specialist care, so he’s been flown to Sydney.”
News of the attack on the general manager was met with shock in the community, with residents horrified to hear of what had befallen the well-respected man.
“Brett and his family have really endeared themselves to the Griffith community,” Cr John Dal Broi.
Mr Stonestreet is still expected to make a full recovery.
