AS A JUNIOR, Riley Owen raised more premiership trophies than many cricketers get the chance to lift in a lifetime.
The 20-year-old produced a score of 61 runs on Saturday to play a vital role in Russells Creek’s maiden division two premiership.
The victory came on the back of Owen’s involvement in five junior flags, across under 13, under 15 and under 17 age groups. The LaTrobe University student was awarded player-of-the-match for his innings, which included five boundaries.
“You don’t ever get sick of winning these, especially because there were a lot of senior guys in the team who were yet to win a premiership,” Owen told The Standard.
“While it was good to go out to get the 61, I was disappointed not to go on to get a bigger and better score that could’ve helped the team out even more. “With the pitch the way it was, it was a little hard to get runs. Particularly early, I knew I had to stick it out a little bit.”
