Detective Sergeant Mark James, of the Hamilton police crime investigation unit, said a fire was believed to have been deliberately lit near the caravan park at 2.45pm.
"A young couple tried to put the fire out but they left before Country Fire Authority units arrived," he said.
"We would like to hear from them. We don't believe they were involved in starting the fire but we want to know if they saw anyone else in the area at about that time."
Detective Sergeant James requested that anyone with information about the fire or who saw suspicious activity between 2.30pm and 2.45pm Saturday contact the Hamilton police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
