Adam Dale Burgess, 37, of Hopetoun Road, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to discharging a missile and was ordered to pay compensation.
He was ordered to pay $280 compensation for the windscreen and put on a six-month good behaviour bond with the condition he pay $120 to the court fund.
Police said that on October 9 last year a driver was in a black Nissan sedan while Burgess was walking down a footpath.
Burgess picked up a stone which he threw at a bin but it missed and accidentally went on to hit and smash the Nissan's windscreen.
Burgess gave the driver his details but he was unable to be later contacted.
When interviewed by police Burgess said he was reliving his cricket glory days when he picked up a stone which he threw at and hit the bin before it went on to cause the damage.
He said he had been watching the Bathurst car race that day and was drunk at the time of the rock-throwing accident.
"I didn't miss the bin. It just bounced off. It was an accident. I gave my phone number to the driver but one digit was out. I was drunk," he said.
Questioned by magistrate Michael Coghlan about the standard of cricket Burgess had played, he admitted he was reliving school cricket glory days.
