As he ran through the south-west on Friday, settling for the night in Port Fairy, Ashley Ralph had raised close to $335,000 to be split between Variety Australia, which helps children in need, and the Julian Burton Burns Trust, dedicated to burns injuries.
The long-time runner, who is making his way from Melbourne to Adelaide, believed if he was successful, he would be the first person to complete the challenge.
Mr Ralph, who was travelling with a support team, said he had been pleasantly surprised by how considerate passing drivers had been.
