Broncos faithful, seniors and juniors alike, flooded the ground at the clasp of the final catch as the Jones Oval club claimed its first under 15 premiership at the Allansford Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
Coming from a seemingly impossible position, with runners-up West Warrnambool just 30 runs behind with five wickets in hand with a host of overs remaining, the Broncos dug in to dismiss the Panthers’ last four batsmen for zero. “I’m a bit speechless,” a delighted Wilson said.
“It’s unbelievable. A lot of hard work has gone into this win. Six or seven years this team has been together.”
The Broncos won the toss and elected to bat, posting a hard-fought 144.
But West Warrnambool looked to be poised for a memorable run-chase, with opener Declan Bourke smashing 62 retired.
“It was such a big effort to get here in the first place but to grind it out like that was pretty special,” Wilson said.
“Luke Wilson is in division one, Will Flaherty is in division two and we’ve had Paddy Drake playing division three. There’s probably five of these kids playing senior cricket.
“Their experience in getting on the turf has been great over last three weeks.”
