Family friend Hannah Dyson has forgone presents for her 11th birthday.
Instead of a gift, Hannah asked her friends to bring along money she could donate to the Melanoma March fundraising campaign.
Hannah, who has cut her hair in the past to support a friend with leukemia, said she was happy to do her bit.
“It feels good to do something that is helping someone else,” Hannah said.
Hannah raised $70, a contribution that has warmed Ms Pickford’s heart.
“When (Hannah’s mum) Sarah told me what she was doing I couldn’t believe it,” Ms Pickford said.
“It is such a nice thing for Hannah to do.”
Ms Pickford first faced melanoma in 2007 and has had to deal with four bouts in the ensuing years. She was given the all-clear last year.
Last week she raised more than $1500 for Melanoma March at a movie night.
