Racing Victoria vets alerted Maher on Friday morning they noted lameness in Jukebox’s near foreleg before scratching him after two vets and an expert independent vet who specialises in lameness ordered the scratching at 5.25pm. The Blue Diamond is the richest two-year-old race in Victoria.
Caulfield Cup winner Jameka runs in the $200,000 group two Peter Young Stakes for Maher.
Tough Warrnambool-trained galloper Black Heart Bart can win back-to-back group one races when he runs in the $500,000 Futurity Stakes, according to Jarrod McLean.
McLean, the Warrnambool foreman for Darren Weir’s stable said the six-year-old has not missed a beat since his last start win in the C.F.Orr Stakes at Caulfield, a fortnight ago.
“We gave him a track gallop at Camperdown last week and he's came through that well. We've just had him down at the beach for the rest of his work. He's freshened up well,” he said.
Black Heart Bart is one of 13 runners that Weir’s Warrnambool stable has running at the meeting which has three group one races on the nine-race program.
Warrnambool trainer Aaron Purcell has Written Era running in the $150,000 Mannerism Stakes while Matthew Williams saddles up Lady Selkirk in the same race.
Meanwhile, the Warrnambool Racing Club has appointed Bryan White as its sales and marketing manager. White replaces Brad Pole, who has taken over the job as operations manager for the AFL in the western district.
