The new community health centre at Moyne Health Services opened for business on Wednesday.
The first clients to take advantage of the new facility were those using the new gymnasium for strength training.
It is expected that podiatry services will also start this week while physiotherapy will be up and going next week.
The opening is a landmark occasion in what is the grand vision of an $11 million redevelopment of the Moyne Health Services Port Fairy campus.
Moyne Health Services interim chief executive Leigh Parker said the opening of the new building was a big step forward.
“We are rapt, it is fantastic to see it up and going,” Mr Parker said. “Our staff are really excited and so are the clientele.
“The strength training has been happening in the squash court at Southcombe Park for nearly two years now so for them to move into the new building is great.”
Construction of the new building began in November 2015 with more than 100 tradesmen involved.
Works on the building were carried out by Fairbrother Constructions.
It is expected by the time all activities are up and going in the building 20 staff members will be in place.
The push is now on to secure the $2.1 million needed to complete the internal fit-out on the upper floor of the building.
Other stages of the redevelopment to come in the future include the relocation of ambulance services from its current site on the Princes Highway and a new urgent care unit.
