The pair flew to Western Australia together but will put their friendship aside when they hit the track for the finale on Friday and Saturday nights.

Series leader McFadden hopes to maintain or stretch his 235-point buffer on defending champion Veal and take out the nationwide competition for a third time.

“We have to be consistent and stay out of trouble,” McFadden said.

“He has nothing to lose this weekend, so he’ll be gassing it up as much as he can.

“He has to win and we have to have a bad night.”

Nine-time series winner Brooke Tatnell is in third spot – a further 277 points behind Veal.

McFadden said he was pleased with his form for Monte Motorsport throughout the World Sprintcar Series season.

“We have been consistently in the top four every race we’ve finished, so it’s been a solid year which is something different for me,” he said.

“Last year we were crashing or winning.”

The 2017 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic champion will stay in Western Australia and compete in the Krikke Boys race in Bunbury before spending a month in Las Vegas.

McFadden is also planning a second American stint – more than likely after a month’s break –  in a bid to captialise on his strong form on home soil.
