Andrew Howard toppled Shawn Duynhoven and Michael Coad to take the crown on Saturday, making amends for a “heartbreaking” fade out due to mechanical issues last year.
Howard said the victory had his team in elation.
“Last year we led for 20 or 25 laps before a component broke, and we didn’t end up finishing the race,” he said.
“It’s probably our biggest race of the year and we’ve finished second and third a number of times. It was good just to get over the line.”
Howard said he regularly traveled to compete in super rod action and was planning to attack more upcoming events in the south-west.
“We’ll do a few more this year, with the main one being the super rod cup over the Easter weekend at Warrnambool,” he said.
