The home ground advantage worked in the locals’ favour, with the womens pairs won by Colac’s Pearl McIver and Mavis Harling.
Colac’s Jeff Turner and Anthony McKay defeated Peter Pangrazio and Mark Bowles from Warrnambool by two shots. The only locals missing out on grand final glory were Heath McLaren and Barbara Dillon, who went down to City Memorial’s Don Price and Wendy Gelbert in the mixed pairs event.
This Sunday, Warrnambool Bowls Club hosts the champion of champions finals and the regional finals for the ladies and mens triples.
The final round of Tuesday Pennant was played last Tuesday. Sympathy must lie with Timboon Maroon for missing the finals, finishing three points short of fourth-placed City Green with identical points up.
Finals action starts next week. In division 1, the first semi-final will be between Warrnambool Gold (third) and City Green (fourth). The second semi will be first-placed City Gold against second-placed Koroit Orange. Both matches to be played at Mortlake.
In division 2, the first semi has Lawn Tennis Green up against Warrnambool Blue. In the second semi, Dennington Red plays City Blue. Both matches are at Koroit.
Division 3’s first semi puts Terang Red against Lawn Tennis Blue, while in the second semi Dennington White will go up against Lawn Tennis White. Both matches at Port Fairy.
The top three sides all had comfortable wins in round 14 of Saturday Pennant. Fourth-placed Timboon Gold’s all-rink loss to Koroit Blue puts Warrnambool Blue and City gold in a position to challenge for a spot in the top four, after both sides recorded wins last Saturday.
In the penultimate round of Saturday Pennant, the game of the round is first-placed Warrnambool Gold away to second-placed Koroit Blue. Only two points separate the two sides, so at the end of play the victor will be the ladder leaders.
The other match that could determine the make-up of the final four is between finals aspirants Warrnambool Blue, hosting Timboon Gold (fourth).
Sympathy must lie with Timboon Maroon for missing the finals, finishing three points short of City Green.
