The Seagulls have welcomed back star key position player Sandy Robinson, fresh off stints with Port Melbourne and Geelong in the VFL. He last played for the club in 2013, stepping into a team that had just come off a winless season.
In 2017, he joins a Seagulls outfit with legitimate claims as a major premiership contender.
“He’s no stranger to the club and the guys – it’s pretty easy for him to walk back into it,” Port Fairy coach Brett Evans said. “It’s a bit different circumstances to when he was here last time.
“The ruck is something that we had identified ... to improve on, and he’ll definitely help in that area. He’s very versatile for a bigger guy; we’ll look to use him in quite a few different positions.”
Evans was confident new joint assistant coach Matthew Sully would be cleared to the club from NEAFL team Southport after the initial clearance lodged in November was denied.
“He works so hard, so when our younger guys see what he’s doing, it’s hard not to (follow suit),” Evans said.
Port Fairy will enjoy a sense of stability heading into the season with an unchanged leadership group.
Daniel Nicholson will continue as captain, Isaac Martin and Dylan Gunning as vice-captains and Dylan Herbertson, Xavier McCartney and Josh Reeves round out the leadership group.
