Matthew Martin, 39, of Warrnambool’s Murray Street, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court.
He has already served 83 days in custody and will be eligible for release from prison next week.
Police said an intervention order was put in place protecting a woman in February last year.
On April 15 the woman rang 000 and reported an assault, saying she had been punched in the face by Martin.
When police arrived they found Martin hiding in the shower.
He told officers he had moved straight back to Warrnambool on release from jail and in with the woman despite being banned from living with her or being in the city.
Defence counsel Xavier Farrelly said his client had spent 83 days in custody although two weeks of that time was in St Vincent's Hospital after Martin swallowed razor blades and had to undergo surgery.
It's not the first time he has done that.
Mr Farrelly said his client had relevant prior court convictions, but the victim now did not want charges pressed.
"He has beat addictions in the past but has unfortunately replaced them with other addictions," Mr Farrelly said.
Martin also has to complete an existing community corrections order when he is released from prison and the intervention order and ban from Warrnambool remain in place.
