Jason Maltby, 37, of Stephens Street, applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court but was remanded in custody until next Monday.
He has been charged with damaging property, unlawful assault and making a threat to kill.
Police said the 69-year-old victim was Mr Maltby's father.
He told officers he had been living in fear because of his son's aggressive and violent behaviour believed to be fuelled by drug use.
On Sunday morning Mr Maltby shouted abuse at his partner and his father told him to keep the noise down.
Mr Maltby then ripped the bedhead off a bed and threw it against a wall.
He then charged at his father and was extremely aggressive while swearing and saying he would kill him.
Mr Maltby told police officers he did push his father against a wall, but didn't recall making the threat although he was upset and angry at the time.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said she could not grant Mr Maltby bail when he had no where to live.
Two people refused to have Mr Maltby at their homes and the Salvation Army had no emergency accommodation in Hamilton.
Police said Mr Maltby has prior court appearances for drug offences.
"You have no address. People have said 'no'. You need somewhere to live," she said.
In remanding Mr Maltby in custody for a week, Ms Toose said she could hear another bail application earlier if an address was confirmed.
