The Warrnambool driver will start his defence on Saturday night against a star-studded night two qualifying field.
He is excited to return to his home track at Allansford’s Premier Speedway for the world-class event.
“I am pretty relaxed really. I am glad I am on tomorrow night after seeing the rain today,” Veal said.
“We’ve been pretty good there all year. We haven’t done as much there as we used to.
“The track has been different every time, so I think that everyone is on an even playing field to begin with.
“It is the best race of the year, especially this year. The competition’s picked up and there’s a lot of good cars. It’s the only race really you want to win.”
Veal is keeping his qualifying night goals simple.
“If we can get two good heat races in, we’ll be fine. That’s where all the good points are, so if we could do that and roll around in the feature,” he said.
“You don’t really want to be top points because you get an early heat on the Sunday night and it gets a bit hard.
“If we start in the top four on Sunday night, we’ll be fine.”
Veal labelled his 2016-17 form inconsistent, saying varying track conditions had played their part.
“I seem to fall off the face of the planet until this time,” he said.
“We’ve been all right but it (the competition) has picked up so much and it’s been a weird season with weather.”
