The 20-year-old, who took out the President’s Cup at Avalon Raceway on Wednesday, will launch his second attempt in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic on Friday night, competing against the likes of past winners Kyle Hirst, Steven Lines, Ian Loundoun and Brooke Tatnell.
“You have to really bring your A-game,” Macedo said.
“James McFadden is always really tough, Jamie Veal is the reigning Australian champion – they’re really good drivers.”
The racer from Lemoore, California will be hoping for better luck this year than when he made his debut in 2016. Then, a collision late in a heat proved costly.
Although his car came away largely unscathed, he was sent from the front to the back of the field, too many laps into the race to make up the ground.
“We didn’t do too great. We didn’t make the feature,” he said. “We had some issues early in the night that caused that. We clawed back really well but were too far back.”
After racing for a few different teams in his first foray onto Australian soil last season, Carson has teamed with Dyson Motorsport – the team which produced 2014 champion Tim Kaeding – full-time this summer.
“This team is just really strong … they’re making my job really easy,” Macedo said.
“I think we definitely have the speed and it wouldn’t surprise me if we ended up in the A-main. I think (my chances for the Classic) are looking really good.”
