Ryan, who has been travelling to the south-west to take part in the Des Notley Pairs tournament since 1988, is yet again gearing up for another tilt at the title.
The 74-year-old said the social aspect of bowls had been part of luring him back to the region for 29 consecutive years.
“I definitely enjoy the tournament, that’s for sure. You play against some great people,” Ryan said.
“We came down to the seaside carnival, over 30 years ago, but I just kept coming and then I got an invitation to this tournament. I just haven’t stopped since then.
“I remember one game that sticks out was playing against Chris Young and Garry Todd, that was a hell of a game. That’s probably the one that I remember the most.” The Des Notley Pairs tournament continues on Thursday.
