The service, set to begin on January 30, will depart from Southern Cross Station at 5.13pm, meaning it will be defined as ‘peak’.
The peak status means the travel vouchers can’t be used and fares will be higher.
A spokesman from the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources said it was looking to find a solution to some of the issues in regard to the fare classification for the additional Melbourne-Warrnambool evening service.
“We will provide an update before the new timetable commences on January 29,” he said.
Twelve new services will begin on the Warrnambool line from January 29, with five of the weekday services falling under the ‘peak’ classification.
