The Seagulls signed the former NEAFL player for season 2017, but his former club Southport denied the clearance in November.
The initial player transfer period closed on November 30, but the traditional clearance lodgement period will open on February 1.
King said the club was hopeful the stalemate would be resolved in due course.
“It’s just currently being worked through,” he said.
“Matt was in discussions with the club and getting the clearance in place.
“We understand that’ll work itself out.”
King said the Seagulls had welcomed a handful of new players across the grades and had no confirmed departures at this stage.
The club’s netballers will resume training in mid-January, as the open grade and division two teams start out on their premiership defences.
