THE signing of a top-drawer tap ruckman and dashing half-back flanker is predicted to gift powerhouse Hampden entity Warrnambool a strong boost leading into the second block of pre-season.

The Blues have signed versatile ball-carrier Jordan Foott from Goulburn Valley Football League grand finalist Rochester while Nick Alexandrou has signed from Bonbeach, in Melbourne’s south-east.
Warrnambool coach John Cook said Foott was expected to move in with fellow recruit Matt Colbert, as the two graduated with degrees in podiatry from the same university.
He said the club was excited to welcome the new faces to the training track in mid-January.
“The great thing about the arrangement here is that Nick and Jordan are both really good people as well as good footballers,” he said.
“We need to make sure the entire playing list are good people who want to contibute to what we’re doing at the club and that is across football and netball.
“If we give something and are contributing that ultimately leads to success.”
Foott played in all of Rochester’s 18 home-and-away and three finals games last season, and was named in the club’s best players six times.
Alexandrou, meanwhile, was a key cog in nine of Bonbeach’s senior matches in the Peninsula Football League last season.
Warrnambool football operations manager Damien Sell expected the duo to be strong additions and said they had previously plied their trade in some of Victoria’s most prestigious country leagues.
“I’d say the Goulburn Valley Football League is in the top five in the state while the Peninsula league is something like the second best,” Sell said.
“It’s been a great off-season for us in the players we’ve brought in but also for the league. There have been some really good players come on board and we’re fortunate for that.
“Nick (Alexandrou) is by all reports a fantastic tap ruckman and he is about six foot eight. I think his wife might come to play netball at the club which is fantastic also.”
Sell said the pairing of Alexandrou and reigning best-and-fairest Dan Weymouth was an exciting prospect for the club.
“These guys will bring their experience of playing at a higher level to our guys. I know from talking to Nick a lot of Victorian Football League players come through their sides up there,” he said.
