As the rain fell on would-be golfers at the Viaduct Road site, organisers announced they hope this year’s annual month-long fundraiser will be its biggest yet.
“It’s a great event and we really hope the community gets behind it,” chairman Peter Reeve said.
Local identities, teen golfers and charity representatives teed off in a bid to get the closest to the hole or nearest the pin.
In the end Leishman took home honours, securing $1000 for the Leila Rose Foundation. The foundation assists families affected by rare childhood cancers.
The event final will be a shoot-out on Australia Day. The winner takes home a car.
Organisers estimate more than 160,000 golf balls will make their way across Warrnambool’s hole-in-one fairway in coming weeks.
