The band was last in the region for the Port Fairy Folk Festival and will be at The Loft on December 15 with support from local “high-octane rhythm & blues” act The Black Belts.
The Rumjacks spent the past three months playing 90 shows and festivals across Europe and the UK.
The five-piece’s lengthy run of dates has been in aid of their latest album Sleeping Rough, which is the Sydney band’s third full-length release.
The Rumjacks formed in 2008 and won fans with their two EPs of 2009 Hung, Drawn & Portered and Sound As A Pound, which combined their parents’ Scottish and Irish music with the punk rock of their teens.
The band went on hiatus in 2012 after lead singer Frankie McLaughlin was jailed for domestic violence. McLaughlin said he was dealing with his “issues through regular counselling and positive lifestyle changes” and intended “to draw awareness to the issue of domestic violence in the future and to actively support efforts to eradicate it from our society”.
