Thomas Jake Savage, 23, now of Corio, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to domestic violence-related offending.
Police said Savage and a woman had been in a relationship for eight months when there was an incident in Camperdown on May 8.
When he woke up at 2pm, Savage abused the woman and her three children, assaulting her and told the woman and children to get out of their home.
When they went outside he told them to get back inside because they didn't have enough clothes on. After they came back inside he grabbed the woman by her hair and threatened to punch her to the face.
After police officers arrived and then left, Savage threatened to tie up and burn the woman and her children, hurt other family members and damage a car.
When police returned to the home a second time that night the woman told them what had happened, revealed the location of Savage's cannabis stash and where he had knuckledusters.
Savage admitted he was hot-headed but claimed he didn't recall what he had said to frighten the woman.
An intervention order was put in place.
Two days later the unlicensed Savage was intercepted driving by police with the woman and her children in the car. The vehicle was impounded.
On June 20 police went to the woman's home, they suspected Savage was at the property, searched the dwelling and found him hiding in the roof space.
Savage said he had nowhere else to live.
Magistrate John Lesser placed Savage on a 15-month community corrections order with conditions he do 100 hours of community work and complete a men's behaviour change program.
