The 13-player squad will travel to Melbourne on Monday ahead of the December 13-15 tournament, which features nine regional teams.
“We’ve got quite a few girls that are quite big hits, that will be one of our strengths,” Townsend said.
“The girls who are really big hits will work well with the girls who push the ball around for singles and twos.”
But a strong bowling attack could be the Waves’ greatest asset.
Townsend said while it was a predominantly pace attack, there was still plenty of versatility to off-set a lack of spin options.
“There’s quite a lot of the girls that bowl, which is good for a girls’ team,” she said.
“The girls out there bowl quite differently.”
The Warrnambool and District and South West associations are represented in the final Waves under 18 female team, with Kira Firth, Maddy Goldsworthy, Jacoba Mungean and Sarah Cassidy all set to play, as well as Hawkesdale’s Aimee Bartlett.
Townsend said while training opportunities had been limited – given most of the girls are in Years 11 and 12 and have had exams to focus on – they would use Monday as an opportunity to warm up before the tournament.
The top two teams after the five championships rounds will play off in the final at Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 5, as will the top under 18 male teams.
