Demand from children accessing homelessness help dropped in the year prior to Luke's tragic death, but increased in that financial year and soared the one after that.
In Victoria, the number almost doubled, increasing by 87 per cent, in 2013/2014, the financial year when Rosie Batty's tragic story and courageous response dominated the headlines.
In 2014/2015, as the state and federal governments responded to the crisis, the numbers in Victoria jumped again, by 82 percent.
The trend is national but has been particularly profound in Victoria, where homelessness services have also seen a 50 per cent increase in single people with children (who are usually women) asking for help because of domestic abuse.
Nationally the number of children and young people accessing homelessness services due to family violence has risen 30 per cent, to almost 19,000 a year.
"Rosie's heroic stand following Luke's death triggered community action and inspired the state government to announce the Royal Commission [into Family Violence]," said Jenny Smith, the head of the Council for Homelessness Persons.
"This has given women and the community more courage to think clearly about the limited options that are available to them."
In comparison, the number of sole people without children seeking help for family violence in Victoria has only risen 7 percent to 55,000 in the same period, according to Australian Institute of Health and Welfare figures analysed by the council.
Other factors prompting the increase could include heightened media coverage, a strong police response and greater state funding.
But Ms Smith warned national funding to many homelessness services remained in limbo because the Coalition government has not yet committed to further National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH) funding.
On Tuesday more than 200 social services groups wrote to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull urging him to pledge the money at the Coalition of Australian Governments meeting on Friday.
Jane* and her two dependant children were left homeless after her abusive, brutal husband ended the lease on their Sunshine rental and took all her possessions while she was on holiday.
They were forced to couch surf with friends until police referred them to a federally-funded Salvation Army family violence program called Accommodation Options for Families.
"Without that help, God knows where we would be," says Jane. "We had to relocate because he stalked them and terrorised them outside their school".
Her case manager, Denise Tucker, said she had seen clients become more open about family violence, and understand its impact on children.
But some still assumed that if family violence did not happen in front of children, it had no affect on them: "Even if it's happening in the next room, they know about it," Ms Tucker said.
The NPAH agreement funds homelessness services in Australia and is worth $115 million each year - $23 million for Victoria - which is matched by the states.
A spokesperson for Minister for Social Services Christian Porter, said his office was "aware of the letter to the Prime Minister relating to National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH) funding".
"A process is currently under way to consider NPAH funding beyond 2017."
