Funding of $1 million was announced for programs targeting the group, which experiences significant rates of abuse.
Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West executive officer Emily Lee-Ack said establishing systems to encourage the disclosure of family violence and recognition of abusive behaviour was important.
“People don’t necessarily understand that things like financial abuse and control of movement, which are significant factors in the experience of family violence of older people, actually constitute family violence,” Ms Lee-Ack said.
