CFA District 4 operations manager Peter Novotny said the introduction of fire restrictions was necessary due to the drying of vegetation in recent weeks and more summer conditions expected.
“Glenelg residents should finish preparing their properties for the summer period,” he said.
“There has been abundant grass growth this spring following good winter rainfall. All residents and visitors are asked to take particular care this summer when driving through long grass or forest, working on properties or stopping on road verges. Farmers are asked to monitor hay which has been pressed and stored to ensure that it does not overheat and burn.”
Road authorities are expected to finalise annual roadside vegetation slashing programs in accordance with the changing seasonal conditions.
