Hamilton police Sergeant David Walkley said there was an incident about 11.30pm Sunday at Penshurst involving men related to each other.
"The two men are in Warrnambool and Hamilton hospitals," he said.
"There was a physical confrontation at a private residence and as a result one man went to a Warrnambool hospital with serious facial lacerations, bruising and a loss of blood.
"The second male is in Hamilton hospital with a serious head laceration. He's expected to be released from hospital into police custody later on Monday to be interviewed."
Sergeant Walkley said a woman in her mid 30s was also suspected of suffering a broken hand in the incident.
"Police are investigating the use of an iron bar in the incident. It's suspected that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident," he said.
