Terang needed one run to secure victory.
Pomborneit needed a dot ball to salvage a tie.
On the final delivery of the 50th over, Bulls captain Matt Bignell went one further, bowling Terang all-rounder Tim Keane out to ensure the points were split in the South West Cricket match.
“I was just hoping for dot balls because they had a lot of wickets in hand,” Bignell said of the final over. “In the end, I was very happy with a tie because they definitely looked like they were going to win at one stage.”
Terang needed 180 for victory but tight bowling from Pomborneit – highlighted by youngsters Jack Darcy and Luke Lenehan holding their nerve in an economical 10-over period – saw them stranded on 7-179 at stumps.
Earlier, Bulls openers Dave Murphy (27 runs) and Craig Sargeant (50) set the pace, before middle-order troubles saw Terang start to get proceedings on its terms.
Spinner Liam Balcombe, who was back in Terang’s division one side, claimed 5-30 off 10 overs.
Terang captain Brett Hunger was pleased to see his side rally.
“They got off to a really quick start – they were going five an over for the first 10 overs,” he said.
“Liam Balcombe came up from divvy three and took five-for. Last week, he took five wickets and made 38 runs. He repeated the dose in division one.”
Liam Geary (24) and Tom Moloney (39) made a strong start for Terang, but a few quick wickets saw them stumbling before Brandon Bant (30) and Keane (61) put on a 92-run partnership.
Noorat is looking to firm up its spot in the top two of the South West Cricket division one ladder after a seven-wicket win over Bookaar.
The win came despite dropping chances early in the innings – including the wicket of Simon Baker, who went on to make 44.
“We dropped a few chances early, including Simon Baker in the second over,” Noorat captain Gus Bourke said.
“He made us pay.”
The Pelicans powered to 3-151, before Michael Sargeant (4-15) and Nick Kenna (2-39) struck. The next three wickets tumbled for just one run, and Bookaar was eventually bowled out for 177.
Dean Abbott (55) and Bernie Harris (39)got Noorat on the front foot quickly. Patrick Heffernan (49 not out) and Bourke (23 not out) finished the job as the home team replied with 3-184.
“Dean was just smacking the ball around,” Bourke said.
“Once they got a wicket we sort of calmed down a bit and then started to build another partnership.”
Tight bowling from Brent Goonan (2-14 off 10) and Angus Uwland (2-18 off eight) helped secure Cobden an 11-run win over Heytesbury Rebels. Michael Vogels snared 5-17 for the Rebels.
