ALLANSFORD captain Ben Boyd reckons you’d need to look long and hard to find a better individual performance than Brad Sheen’s in Saturday’s Warrnambool and District win over Port Fairy.

The number-eight batsman piled on 42 runs to help lift the Gators from a precarious 6-61 to 8-134 – they went on to post 8-153 – and tore through the Pirates’ lower order, taking 5-11 as they were bowled out for just 48.
For Sheen, who describes his bowling style as “very slow-medium”, it was career-best figures with the ball.
“It’s taken me about 20-odd years to get five wickets,” he said.
“It was just our day.”
Early on, it looked like Port Fairy might’ve been in for the better outing, after early wickets saw the Gators struggling at 6-61.
But Sheen teamed with first Ben Fary (18) and then Boyd (24 not out) to salvage the situation.
Kyall Timms kept the momentum firmly rolling Allansford’s way when he opened the bowling, taking 3-13 off his six overs, while Sheen did the bulk of the damage to the middle and lower order.
Port Fairy co-coach Aaron Williams admitted his side had things to work on as they prepare for two-day matches.
“We know that we’re up to it, but we’ve got to put it together on the day,” he said.
“It was just one of those days and it was a credit to Allansford, they bowled really, really well and batted really well.
“We’ve definitely got a lot of improving to do. We’ll take a lot out of it.”
