Terang coach Dean Brebner said the Tornadoes’ experienced core was feeding off its younger players’ energy as they strive towards a potential Country Basketball League finals campaign.
The Tornadoes, who have struggled in recent seasons, boast a 9-4 win-loss record after splitting a home-court double-header on the weekend.
Justin Wallace (19 points) and Brebner (17) hit the scoreboard in Terang’s 87-72 win over Warrnambool Seahawks on Saturday night.
The Tornadoes were within two points at the last change against Corio Bay Stingrays before succumbing to a 70-61 loss.
Brebner said Terang was feeding off its depth.
“Justin Wallace is having a really good year and Scott Judd is hitting big shots up the stretch,” he said.
“And even our young guys are coming to training week in, week out. They don’t get many minutes but they need to be the most commended.
“I’ve been in their shoes and it’s tough. When their number is called, they’re playing their hearts out.”
Brebner praised the Tornadoes’ scoring efficiency against the Seahawks.
“We had a really good team effort and it didn’t matter who shot the ball, they were good shots,” he said.
Terang has now beaten six of its seven opponents at least once this season with Horsham Hornets the only side it’s yet to defeat.
