Leishman shot a two-under 70 on Thursday to be five shots behind leader Andrew Dodt. A Queenslander, Dodt shot a seven-under 65. This included a brilliant front nine of 31 which included five birdies.
Leishman started his round on the back nine, struggling for consistency. A bogey on the 10th was not the ideal start but he bounced back to land birdies on the on the par five 12th and par three 14th.
This good work was undone when he recorded a double-bogey on the par three 16th. The front nine was kinder to Leishman with birdies on holes three, eight and nine.
He remained bogey-free for the other six holes for a second-nine score of 33 and within striking range of the leaders.
